The Lilywhites were on fire, bagging another six goals in the second half. George added two more, Chambers bagged another two goals along with another from Jason and Jimmy Higgins smashed one in also. Ipswich did manage to find the net twice, through some sloppy defending from Preston.

Match Report & Match pictures

Preston North End started their 2008/09 campaign with a win over Crewe Alexandra. Manager Steve Cowell having a positional night mare, with a strong squad of 18.

North End got off to a good start, on form George fired in an early goal after a jinking run. Preston continued to create plenty of chances, failing to find the net again in the first half. Crewe battled on, forcing a great save from Bob in the Preston goal.

Preston started the second half like they did the first, Chambers finding the net from close range to give the Lilywhites a two goal cushion. Chambers added a second from the penalty spot, after George was brought down in the 18 yard box. Preston's scoring came to an end when Wacker found the net with an easy tap in after some good football.

The manger made a number of changes, with all the subs coming on to get a good 25-30 minutes. The vast number of changes gave Crewe the upper hand as they grabbed two goals back to make a nervous finale. Preston managed to hold on to record their first win of the season.
